The Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic has ODU competing on and off the court. You don’t have to be a master of the three-pointer to beat UVA this holiday. ODU and UVA are competing in a canned food competition that will benefit the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
The Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic is a basketball event between ODU and UVA as well as the University of Richmond and GMU. The schools will face off on the court on Dec 22.
Donations have been coming in since Nov. 15 and will run until Dec. 15 in attempt to collect more canned goods than UVA. The items can be dropped off at various on campus locations including Webb Center, Rollins Hall, Batten Arts and Letters Building, Village Bookstore, Student Recreation Center and the Higher Education Center in Virginia Beach.
The donations can also be dropped off at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia with mention that they are for ODU’s total in the Holiday Hoops Classic.
In effort to collect more cans, ODU offered $3 discounts for ODU athletic events when canned food items were donated. The women’s basketball game against Cal on Nov. 30 and the men’s games against Richmond on Dec. 4 will also offer this discount. Attendees at the Dec. 7 game against VCU are encouraged to bring cans although the discount will no longer be offered.
Donations can also be made online at http://fbseva.convio.net/site/Donation2?1462.donation=form1&df_id=1462 or simply search the Govenor’s Holiday Hoops Classic at foodbankonline.org.
