WEBB CENTER EVACUATED FOLLOWING ANONYMOUS THREAT

Old Dominion University Police Department and the Norfolk Police Department bomb squad are investigating an anonymous threat against Webb University Center.

The building has been evacuated.

‘While believed to be low-level, in an abundance of caution police have determined closing the building is best for the safety of campus,” reads the ODU alert sent to students at 12:45 p.m.

Webb Center is expected to be closed for several hours. The campus will be notified when it reopens.

Police are not able to comment further on the situation.

Webb Center employee Christopher Hayden said police instructed him to exit the building for a fire drill.

 

UPDATE – 3:31 p.m.

 

No suspicious objects were found in a thorough sweep of Webb Center by state and federal police and K-9 units. The Webb Center has reopened.

The university police are continuing their investigation and are maintaining an enhanced presence in the area.
