Old Dominion University conducted an Veterans Observance Day early this year by revering the thousands of U.S. military that attend or have attended the university on Kaufman Mall, Thursday.
ODU’s Director of Military Affairs, Retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral David Architzel served as the master of ceremonies for the event. The event included three speakers who were also students at ODU, two veterans with military experience and one with no affiliation to the military who talked about what the military mean to them.
President John Broderick also spoke about what the military meant to ODU and the country during the event.
More than 6,000 of the 25,000 students attending ODU have affiliations with various military branches, largely due to the university’s close proximity to multiple military bases. An event such as Veterans Day marks an important time for the student body to honor those that served to protect the American dream following the end of World War I.
