Keynote Recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month

In recognition of September as Hispanic Heritage month, a keynote presentation was held by the Hispanic and Latino Employee Association on Thursday evening.  The event welcomed all university students and staff beyond just Latino students. President Broderick also offered a few sincere remarks regarding the growing Hispanic population at Old Dominion University.

The keynote presentation was presented by Beatriz Amberman, Founder of the Hispanic Community Dialogue Organization in Hampton Roads, and focused largely on the history of Latinos in the Hampton Roads area as well as the greater area of the United States and South America.

“A lot of people didn’t cross the border, the border crossed them,” Amberman said.

The history presented by Amberman focused largely on facts that tend to go disregarded in history textbooks.
