La Wanza Lett-Brewington was the special guest at the student government association senate meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 29 at the same time as the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. The women’s center holds over 120 events for the community every year. Their office focuses on three key areas: leadership, empowerment and support. The office also provides volunteer opportunities for students as general volunteers, empower volunteers and green dot volunteers.

A contingency request for the ODU Vex-U Robotics organization to attend a conference was discussed. Travel arrangements for the conference were discussed, and the bill was moved to second reading status.

The ODU police department reported larceny as the highest criminal incident in March, and most common in the library and Student Recreation Center.

President Christopher Ndiritu briefed the senate on┬áthe Nazi flier incident. Dean of Students Don Stansberry said, “It is an ongoing investigation in looking for who put it up or if there is a cell in the community and how active they are.”

Ndiritu stressed the importance of posting on social media about diversity, while using the hashtag #WeAre1ODU.

Stansberry discussed the recent fire at the District apartment complex. Students affected by the incident were given a free meal at Cafe 1201 for their inconvenience.

Director of Finance Lydia Burch reported that over $8,000 remains in the contingency fund. She also mentioned Apr. 8 is the last day for student organizations to request a contingency.

Director of Legislative Affairs and Diversity Rachael Edmonds highlighted the fact that on Apr. 16, members of the Student Government Association will join a number of international students for a retreat to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

Director of Student Life Brandon Ballard mentioned the Gender Inclusive Ad-Hoc Committee has been set up for the fall semester. He also mentioned the possibility of using meal swipes for food and drinks at football games.
