21 Savage brings out the 'savage' for Homecoming

Fatima Rivera | Contributing Writer

Homecoming concerts are a highlight of all the events surrounding campus and this year was no exception. 21 Savage performed Nov. 3 at the Ted Constant Center, where the entire arena was filled with fans waiting to see him take on the stage.

Rappers Doug Finesse and 3rd Eye Ry took the stage first as guest stars and the opening acts for the night. Both artists are locals in Virginia and have supporters all over the area. People in the crowd were vibing to each artist as they were on stage as they both gave stunning performances and gained new fans.

After the opening acts, 21 Savage was introduced. He performed songs from his latest album, “ISSA” but also played songs from his self-released EP “Savage Mode” from 2016.

“No Heart” had everyone join along and start to bounce around. “X” and “Red Opps” had the most intense reaction from the crowd, everyone started to jump and sing along to both songs throughout the whole set. People even started to form mosh pits or dance to the music.

During each of his sets, 21 rapped the beginning of the song with music and then switched over to acapella. His vocals were strong and he sounded the same live as he does on his albums. This action was a nice transition between songs to get people hyped up over and over again throughout the entire show.

21 also performed his latest song “Rockstar” featuring Post Malone, which is currently a number one song in the country. 21 closed out the night with one of his top hits “Bank Account,” making the entire crowd go crazy one last time before he ran off the stage, indicating that the concert was over.

The show brought many people out to enjoy the music and bring the hype for each artist that performed. All three artists gave their all, and the crowd loved the vibe and the positive attitude in the entire venue.

Doug Finesse’s EP, “Late Four Class” is to be released Dec. 3 and other songs are available on Soundcloud.

3rd Eye Ry’s “Makeup On” music video is in production and other music is available on Soundcloud as well.

You can listen to 21 Savage’s “ISSA” album on Spotify and other music streaming sites where available.
