Saturday night, the Old Dominion men’s basketball team took on Marshall in an effort to rectify their loss earlier in the week. While both side battled valiantly, the Monarchs ultimately came out on top winning 82-76.
During the first half both teams struggled to find their pace. However, the Monarchs quickly adjusted marking a 49% field goal average and collecting a staggering 24 rebounds. Offensively, BJ Stith led the Monarchs with 12 points. While his older brother, Brandan Stith, led defensively with eight rebounds and two steals. Pushing the score to 40-26 entering the half.
Following halftime, Marshall stormed the court and narrowed Old Dominions 23 point lead. Ultimately, they were not able to match the Monarchs offensive wit and defensive pressure. Trey Porter played as the all around leader for the Monarchs marking 18 points and 13 rebounds. BJ Stith led offensively with 20 points and Brandan Stith led defensively with 14 rebounds.
The Old Dominon men’s basketball team now hold a record of 13-4,4-1 C-USA. The Monarchs will travel to Florida this week to face off against FIU (Thurs. 18) and Florida Atlantic (Sat. 20). With both teams holding a worse record, these two games should prove to be an easy win for the Monarchs.
