A part of “A Girl Can Dream,” which was on display at the Hixon Student Art Gallery from Jan 25. to Feb. 2.

“A Girl Can Dream” was the first student art show of the spring semester, hosted in the Hixon Gallery.

The exhibition made full use of the gallery’s space with photo collages, spray-painted messages on the walls, carefully crafted displays of art and fashion, and a phonograph softly playing music. The exhibition was eye-catching and eclectic, with something new in every corner of the gallery.

The creator, who goes by her middle name Artist, described the exhibition as a spotlight inside her mind.

“Everything inspires me, but fashion and art inspired me the most. And on top of that, being a woman […] those are my three elements and creating my exhibition.”

The exhibition originally started as a photo shoot called “A Girl Can Dream,” but Artist decided to expand the concept into her first art exhibition. It took her two weeks to fully expand her concept and assemble all the necessary elements.

The exhibition made use of artistic fashion as well, with themes of avante-garde, collages of photos from Artist’s original photoshoot, and a corset displayed on the wall.

Artist works with fashion and art extensively. She feels that they are not so different from each other as art forms.

“You start off with an idea and you start creating things. […] It’s two different mediums, but the same formula,” she said.

“A Girl Can Dream” was displayed from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2. More of Artist’s work can be found on the Instagram for her creative house, @__criador.
