On Feb. 27, 2019 campus was shaken after an aggressive open armed burglary took place. The robbery happened around 9 pm when five individuals, made their way into the Dominion residence hall on campus by walking in after another student was granted access in the building.

Some of the charges that were given included conspiracy to commit burglary, abduction and use of a firearm. All of the suspects involved with the crime range in age from 18 to 19 years old. It is advised that if students see a person they think shouldn’t be in the residence hall that they make sure the residence assistant is notified.

This horrific incident speaks volumes to the safety of the students here at Old Dominion University. According to a source there were over 500 safety related reports recorded in 2017 alone. Most students did not think that something so serious could happen in such close proximity to them, but in fact it did happen.

Hampton roads ABC News interviewed a couple of students and they stated that they usually don’t see anything like this happen directly on campus while also stating that it is a common trend for students to let other students in residence halls if their student id is not with them.
