Play Ball

We're swiftly approaching that warmer weather which coincides with some nine inning ball. A season with a hotdog and a cup of popcorn is set to get underway for Old Dominion University Monarchs in the immediate future. With the 2020 season cut short due to the Covid-19, the players, coaches, and staff are eager to get this season started with hopes of this time finishing what they set out to do, capturing a Conference USA title.

The season opens February 19th-21st, when the Monarchs welcome in cross city rivalry the Norfolk State Spartans. The team is slated to play 18 opponents, which includes a marquee matchup when the Monarchs travel to Greenville, North Carolina to play #16 ECU on March 3rd. This along with nine other opponents that finished with ten plus wins last year in a shortened season and a deep C-USA schedule will determine the faith of our beloved Monarchs.

Conference play begins March 26, as the Monarchs host Florida International University. Bud Metheny Baseball Complex is preparing to host the first 250 fans for attendance and will require fans to practice effective social distancing while attending all home games. One excellent opportunity to get on board with that the ODU athletic department is offering for those who aren't available or capable to attend ODU's home games are the $59 "Monarch Cutouts", presented by Chartway. All participants who purchase their own cutout will have it displayed for all 2021 home games. A unique way of still showing love for your ODU Monarchs.

As we continue to move forward, it's important to remember to follow the guidelines implemented to assure our safety. The university continues to monitor all Covid-19 activity in the area and it's vital as fans we do our part to assure a full season of baseball along with other sports that follow. We encourage you to get out there and be part of the 250 fans allowed to cheer as we make this turn to returning back to some sort of normality. The ODU sports that we've grown to love and appreciate are now counting on us to be responsible and get out there and show our devotion for our ODU Monarchs. Go Pride!
