The Old Dominion Monarchs were victorious Saturday night in a whirlwind of a game after a 28 point deficit against North Texas, closing out the second to last home game for the Monarchs this football season.

After trailing 28-0 in the first half, the Monarchs fought their way back for a thrilling game, racing against the clock to come from behind and win. Many students and fans left at half time distraught and nauseated over the score. For those who stayed, they were in for a treat.

With another upset in the bag this season, the Monarchs were the underdogs of the game, with North Texas favored by14 points. With only 15 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs finally had their first lead of the night.

On second and goal at the 1-yard line, Elijah Davis, 12, ran the ball for the game winning touchdown. The stands erupted and the sidelines went wild as the Monarchs celebrated yet another exhilarating win. Starting quarterback, Blake LaRussa completed 21-of-43 passes for 301 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.

No doubt this has been an interesting season for the Monarchs to say the least. With a 3-7 record, the other two wins for the season have gained national attention for bizarre reasons. With Tech, the Monarchs delivered the biggest spread upset of the year.

The WKU wild ending felt like a Narnian journey as literally everything that had to go right for the Monarchs, happened. Due to technicalities, penalties and pure luck, with only 12 seconds left, ODU scored 10 points winning the second game of the season. There have not been many wins this season, but when the Monarchs do, it is guaranteed to be a thriller.

The last home game of the season will be this Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.. Come out and support the Monarchs one last time before major renovations begin on Foreman Field.
