ODU men put on an defensive clinic in route to 73-62 win over FAU

The Monarchs made out like bandits, coming away with 17 steals in their 10th win out of their last 11. ODU was fortunate enough to control the pace of the entire contest as they would lead their opponents for over thirty-eight minutes out of the total 40 of competiton.
In addition to the win, Coach Jeff Jones stated how impressed he was with their defensive efforts on Saturday night. He expressed, “Overall this was a terrific effort by our guys, we played really good defense today. I don’t think I ever coached a team that had 17 steals in one game.”
ODU did allow FAU to come within one possession of tying up the ball game. However, this close encounter sparked a 12-0 run by the monarchs to eventually seal the win.
Four Monarchs scored in double-digit margins led by Ahmad Caver with 17 points (11-14 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, and an astounding career-high seven steals. Randy Haynes finished with 12 points, 10 of which scored in the first half and three steals. While Bj Stith contributed 13 points and three assists, and Brandan Stith stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, two rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
The Monarchs next game will be Saturday, Jan. 27 at Charlotte and will be televised live on C-USA TV at 7 p.m.
